A stepper motor is an electromechanical device that directly converts electrical pulses into mechanical motion. By controlling the sequence, frequency, and quantity of electrical pulses applied to the motor coils, the steering, speed, and rotation angle of the stepper motor can be controlled. Without relying on a closed-loop feedback control system with position sensing, a simple and low-cost open-loop control system composed of stepper motors and matching drivers can achieve precise position and speed control.

A hybrid stepper motor is designed to combine the advantages of permanent magnet and reactive motors. It is divided into two phases, three phases, and five phases. The two phase step angle is generally 0.9 degrees and 1.8 degrees, the three phase step angle is generally 1.2 degrees, and the five phase step angle is generally 0.72 degrees.
